The coolant debacle continues....
Good god. All my previous posts have more or less described my problem with varying coolant levels. Well - I found I had an air lock and that is now sorted. But we keep leaking coolant. Why? Well, when I had a look we have joke pipe work which leaks to buggery. So have a question/request -

Does anyone have any spare coolant/water pipes for a 1983 T25 with a 1.9 water boxer? If you do let me know asap and I'll offload cash to you!

Didn't manage to make it to All Types - did anyone else? From what I heard it was a great weekend.

Are there any more shows on the horizon?

My van...cont'd
I posted the other day about a coolant drinking problem my engine was having - every other day I was filling it up and on closer inspection - It was emptying after about 20min!!!

I've had suggestions from knackered radiators to cracked heads - luckily a good fiddle and the haynes manual revealed that all I needed to do was bleed the cooling system - there was a shed load of air trapped which prevented the coolant from reaching the radiator, hence it was getting really hot, expanding and spilling out the top up tank via a poor cap seal.

So if any of you share a coolant drinking problem, then maybe this could be a first check! Hope this is of some help.

And for those who asked, here are pictures of My Van!

I intend to post a little on this board with thoughts, events and random things I find in the haynes manual to try and get this group going again because there seems to be so much knowledge here!!

Has anyone had any problems with their van just *drinking* water/coolant - I have to fill the tank everyday, I'm thinking leaky radiator/pipes - any thoughts?

GoWest engine to bring her back to life.
This place seems to be deserted but I'll post this anyway. It's possible someone may still be monitoring.

My Vanagon was recently diagnosed with a cracked cylinder head. I am considering replacing it with a rebuilt and improved GoWesty engine. Is there anyone out there having experience with this company and/or their products?

I will edit and update this post as events warrant.

Goodbye summer, good ridance.
Thank God it's getting closer to fall. I honestly don't like the summer. It's too hot for me. I'm a fall and winter fan. It's the best time for camping as well. The van is all ready to go, I've got the curtains up and I went ahead and took out the middle seat and put a area rug down. It's looking very home-y.

Double trip idiocy
I'm off to sunny Scotland for the weekend, Scottish Volkswagen festival. Should be a good time I imagine. I will be camping with the rest of the 80-90 crew - Scottish Division; that is those that didn't head south to Cornwall for the Cornish Bashtie.

Silly thing is on Monday I have to return to Manchester, pick up my children and then turn round and head right back to Scotland to spend the rest of the week visiting with Grandma. I could/should have organised it better but without the cooperation of my ex wife these things can be a little tricky.

I have a squeaky wheel, I should check this before I go in reality but to be truthfull I have no idea what I'm gonna find if I do. The best thing would seem to be to get there and let those with more mechanical knowledge than me have a look and listen. I have recovery.

None of the written materials we can find so far for the 1971 Westfalia bus we bought last month tells us where the jackpoints are, so that we can inspect the brakes. I'm sure the original owners manual is around somewhere, but still . . . any hints? (crossposted to VW communities)

My sweetie and I have been discussing getting some sort of camping van for years, and last week, a '71 Westfalia sort of fell into our laps. Reading about them on the web has me all excited, and even though I know it'll make the trip to the coast (over a small mountain range) a bit slower, I'm really getting excited about it.

Van + Canoe
Thought this pic was kinda cool. Been using the Van a lot recently now its nice out. Its so easy to throw the camping gear in it and take off for a few days or throw the canoe on top and explore some close by rivers.
